About Me

My name is Lizzie Scott. I am a registered psychologist based here in beautiful Christchurch. I am originally from the UK and have been living in New Zealand since 2006.  I am experienced in providing one to one and group therapy for individuals, whānau and wider support networks. I have held roles within forensic settings, education, research, consultancy and training. I currently tutor for Massey University alongside my private practice here at Hummingbird Psychology. 

I believe that within all of us there are strengths and capabilities that we can access and grow to help us to cope with the challenges that modern daily life can bring. At times we can access these skills ourselves or with the support of loved ones, however sometimes, when that feels too hard a task, seeking the support of a professional can be crucial to regaining overall wellbeing. I have been privileged throughout my career to walk alongside people who are willing to share their story and their journey with me as they explore new ways of thinking and being. My goal as a therapist is to work collaboratively with you to identify the therapeutic techniques and strategies that will be most helpful for you. Feeling connected and respected is important to all of us and I strive to provide a safe and supportive therapeutic space where you can feel heard as you seek to achieve your goals and reach a place of wellness and resilience. 

Providing high quality and effective therapy is important to me and I incorporate a range of therapeutic techniques into my practice including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness. My practice is evidence-based which means that the therapy I provide follows best practice guidelines and is grounded in current research based principles and techniques. I am registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board. I am also a full member of the New Zealand Psychological Society and a committee member of the Institute of Criminal Justice and Forensic Psychology.
